The National Composite Center (NCC) has announced a joint agreement with Composites One to distribute the center's Rapid Fiber Preforming technology in North America. The partnership will help the center make the process available to a wider market. The National Composite Center has developed the technology to produce composite pickup truck boxes for the automotive industry. The center's rapid fiber preform process uses a chopper head to spray the fiber or material needed for the composite onto a screen. The shape is then placed in a mold and injected with a liquid resin that hardens to form a solid part. The center has improved the technology to the point where roll woven fibers, mat etc and hand lay-up are no longer needed to make complex shapes with carbon fibers. |
