REXCO founder Mortier (Mort) Franklin Barrus II (deceased) has been nominated to the ACMA (American Composites Manufacturers' Association) Hall of Fame. Mr. Barrus qualifies under two of the Hall of Fame criterion:
Mr. Barrus experimented widely with and introduced the use of Polyvinyl Acetate and Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) solutions as film forming barriers (parting films) for composites. He further marketed PVA and mold release wax under the trade name PARTALLÒ. He also pioneered a methodology to manufacture extruded composite arrow shafts and bow backs under the company name Reinforced Extrusion Company (REXCO). Mr. Barrus worked closely with and made important contributions to the work of early composites pioneers such as Bill Tritt of Glasspar, for which he manufactured a phenolic-glass mast for The Dincat while at Pacific Laminates around 1950. ACMA Executive Director Missy Henriksen states, "The composites industry is relatively young compared to traditional materials industries, and the forefathers, the first generation pioneers, entrepreneurs, research and project engineers, are starting to leave us. We want to celebrate the impact they have had on the industry, as well as mark their place for future generations." REXCO continues in the tradition established by Mort Barrus in manufacturing simple, effective and economical mold release products. These products are marketed under brand names PARTALLÒ, FORMULA FIVEÒ, and MARBALEASEÒ used by the composites/GRP industries. |
